So Much More.....
As I drove the same route home again today, I noticed a young blind man, waiting at the corner for his turn to cross. My light was red, and as I pulled up slowly, I noticed he stood there for several seconds after the light had changed and traffic had stopped. I was beginning to wonder if he would be able to cross in time. Just then, he stepped off the curb and made his way across Hawthorne. The car next to me, he even watched, to make sure he made it across in time. As he did, he stepped up on the curb, reached out and touched the Bus Stop pole...his destination. Our light changed and off traffic went. I rounded the corner, and up 12th I drove. Once again, the route I take daily; I come upon the studio for the blind. I pass it everyday, but today it stood out. Maybe because of the young man on Hawthorne? Maybe because I noticed several blind patrons standing outside on the sidewalk, wondering where they were going? Maybe because for a brief moment, I once again thought, who was the handicapped person? Me or them? Whose life was enriched with sight? Mine or the blind, or both! I, like the blind have endured many obstacles on this life journey of mine. I have learned to be able to move forward in life, you need to accept and process each bump in the road. You may not like what needs to be done, but you know that to move into happiness, you have to take the road ahead of you and move on.
